Welcome to Jamie’s Recipes!

I am Jamie and I love food. (Hi Jamie!) Welcome to my square of the Internet. Good food is my passion, whether it is simple or fancy does not matter to me, as long as it tastes good. Hardly a day goes by that I do not read about food, think about food, or eat some food. Recipe development is a fun way for me to play with my food, and this blog is a fun way for me to share my passion. Every recipe I post, my family and I have personally tested. Most of the recipes are of my own creation, however, if I do use some-one’s recipe I will give credit where credit is due.

Food has always been part of my history. As a child, my sister and I would help my mom prepare dinner. My Great Grandma Dorothy makes great cinnamon rolls and homemade pies, Grandma Bonnie and Grandpa Tom are both great cooks, Grandma Elaine makes the best pan-fried hamburgers, Aunt Debbie makes the moistest hot turkey sandwiches (and is doing some catering), Uncle JP is an all around good cook and my cousins apparently are becoming great cooks themselves, Dad makes the best fried eggs and Mom complements him with her perfectly crispy bacon. Grandma Bonnie, Grandpa Tom, Mom and Dad “catered” my wedding reception. Grandma Bonnie, my sister and I “catered” my parent’s 25th wedding anniversary. Needless to say this passion for food flows through my veins.

Back in the olden days women would record their prized recipes on index cards and file them away in a recipe box. This is my recipe box –I just wish I could get it to smell like cedar. What is neat about recording my recipes here, is that I get to record memories in the form of stories and photos along with the recipe.

Comments

I encourage you to leave comments on my posts. I like to get feedback on my recipes. Do you make something similar but add a little zing to it with a certain spice or herb? Tell me! I love to try new things. I am not *quite* perfect, so if you find an error let me know.

Personal Information

I grew up out in the country in northwest Iowa. Alex and I got married in 2005 in the same church my parents did –even though it is in northeast Iowa. In 2007 I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Theatre for Youth. I loved working with the students, but now my time is occupied by my own two kids. After college I worked at an assisted living center as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and I loved it, I miss my co-workers and residents so much.

September 2008 Alex and I moved to Omaha, NE with our two beautiful daughters Sasha and Penelope, and our smelly dog Marley. My dream of becoming a domestic engineer (stay at home mom) has come true. This has allowed me to do lots of cooking and recipe developing. My two little sous chefs enjoy helping me in the kitchen anyway they can, whether that is dumping in ingredients or unloading the dishwasher.  I truly am blessed.

Along with cooking, I enjoy sewing. This is something that I really want to make more time for, I would like to get really good. Occasionally I will share with you something that I have created. I will keep a list of my projects on my Sew Lovely page.

Thanks for visiting. Enjoy!

Hi Jamie. Bought some scapes today at the farmers market and went looking for a good recipe. Yours did the trick. Also 2 daughers-Allison & Marissa. Last April Al got married and next April Rissy (as we call her) is getting married. So I now cook for 2 son-in-laws and will be checking back here frequently. Thanks.

Hi I love your site, and was looking for a more picturesque version of a Danish Braid, so I did not have to wing it. I am not much of a baker, but am trying to get more into it…

Look forward to more of your post!

  10. [...] I’ve got bunches of Pac choi in my crisper. Good thing it keeps pretty well. I’m going to tear into all the bunches, pull out the tenderest leaves, and add them to the lettuce below. Then if fried rice or another stir-fry doesn’t finish the rest this week, I’m going to try baby bok choy pesto. Here’s the recipe from Jamie’s Recipes. [...]
