Had a proud chef's moment. Added cinnamon to this mixture while cooking (seemed so right with the maple syrup). I'll let you know how it pans out (geddit?)

I found your site while searching for baby choy recipes. I have been getting them all winter long from my CSA and was pretty burned out on stir fry. Your bok choy pesto is genius! I had raw pecans in the cupboard so I used those in place of cashews. I've used your pesto a few ways including puff pastry pesto roll ups to take to a New Years Eve party and they were great. No one believed that it was bok choy. Thanks for a fantastic recipe. I just received another box today with a bunch of baby bok choy and I'm looking forward to making it again.

Hi Jamie,
I'm making these for a family brunch on Saturday, but I have the same question as Memoria.

How can I let the dough rise with the bread machine? Can I just set it in a bowl and wait?
If so, how long should I wait for?

A great idea for future recipes this. Thank you for sharing it. Have you noticed how so many people appear to be cooking again? I wonder if the lack of funds due to the current climate has something to do with it and we all appear to be cooking again! its great!

I love the idea of layering them. It seems like it would be much easier and less time consuming.

Those look great! I (used to) love Heath bars, but now I find the toffee too sweet and almost unpleasant. I'll defintely try this one soon--I already have a candy making weekend on the schedule.

This is my all time favorite candy...especially with nuts added! But everytime I make it my toffee is chewy and bendable!
These look sooooo delish that maybe I will be brave enough to try once again. Maybe.

so a twist on this...my grandpa always makes toffee for the holidays and the way he does it...he pours the toffee into the pan and lets it get just a little solid....then he puts choc chips on top of the toffee while it is still warm and lets them melt and spreads them over the whole thing and adds the nuts. Then when the whole thing cools, he just cracks it up into pieces (kind of like peanut brittle). It has that layered look to it and is YUMMY. :)

The crew saved me one bar and it was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Top 5 for sure. I've been so unsuccessful with candy making that I am afraid to try, but yours were SO AMAZING that you may have inspired me to try again.

Hi Jamie,
Ran across your blog and I really like it. You might be interested in a book reading happening this Saturday, Dec. 5, at 4pm at Soul Desires in Omaha's Old Market. Author Steven McFadden will talk about his new book, The Call of the Land: An Agrarian Primer for the 21st Century. It's all about the exploding food movement--community gardens, CSAs, local foods, and more. Check out his blog for more info: www.thecalloftheland.com. Please help spread the word to other foodies! Thanks and blessings, Elizabeth

Keep up the great blog! I LOVE your cinnamon rolls. I have even had a request for the recipe so sent the German girl to your blog. I will have to ask her if she ever made them.
I knew I seen some yummy looking gluten cinnamon rolls on a blog but could not remember where. The boy will be super excited when we make these!!

Hey Jamie! I love chatting with you on Twitter :) it's been so nice knowing you.. wish we were in the same time zone though to chat a little more. I love the pie crimper you have - 10 cents?? Neat! I've never baked apples with brie, and quite frankly am a little terrified of the combination. Thanks for trying out the eggplant recipe from my blog. :)

I have one of these pans. I make a regular batch of pancake mix (my mom's special light and fluffy recipe) and make "pancake balls" for my kids. They eat them up! We can finish an entire batch of pancake balls for breakfast, but for some reason the same amount of batter made into pancakes always leaves us with leftovers. Go figure. LOL

Yum Jamie! My junior year roommate was half Danish, so she gifted me a pan way back then and taught me the right way to turn them with that little pin. But... I've never tried pumpkin flavor - I'll have to do that - thanks for the recipe!

I just saw one of these pans at Willams-Sonoma and thought they looked delicious!! They have about 13 different recipes on their website if you're looking for more ideas. If you do a search they spell it ebelskiver. This is definitely something I want to try some day!!!

What a fun kitchen tour. You know I consider you lucky with oven. Mine is even tinier! No roasting turkey, just have to be happy with chicken for now.

But must the purple really go? I like the quirkyness it adds to the place. But then again, I'm biased. :)

OK...I too like to try non-traditional cooking, especially of Asian foods...the baby bok choy in photo is Shanghai baby bok choy, I have used it as well as the other one that has greener tops..both great. The Shanghai is even more tender than the other..I have a bag full of them now and am trying to figure out what to do with them that is different..main difference for me is my husband is a strict vegetarian (I used to be)..so I have a good challenge everyday..and I like doing this. Tofu not Asian style etc. I love Asian foods too but like to try a difference.
Enjoyed reading these recipes...thanks..Martha ;->

I am one of those that thinks soup is for a winter meal! But this recipe looks like a light and nutritional soup! Will try it soon.
We use our crockpot alot in the winter mostly for soup. And pot roast.
This summer living in a camper out in the hayfield it was used alot. Makes great seasoned rice. And other hotdishes. So easy! Realized I need to use the crockpot more.

Happy house hunting!

Hi Jamie, Just stumbled across your blog from What Cheer's blog. I highly recommend the roasted broccoli! We add some chopped up garlic to it also. We make it at least twice a week and love it. You have a awesome blog, will be bookmarking for sure :)

Hi Jamie. Bought some scapes today at the farmers market and went looking for a good recipe. Yours did the trick. Also 2 daughers-Allison & Marissa. Last April Al got married and next April Rissy (as we call her) is getting married. So I now cook for 2 son-in-laws and will be checking back here frequently. Thanks.

Zucchini already? I didnt get my garden in early this year so mine just has blossoms yet. Well that was on Tuesday anyway. Maybe I should look again!

My family loves the egg scrambles with veggies too. So quick and easy too. Have never added peas tho.

I recently had these in a mexican eaterie called Chiquitos. They were awesome. I am making them for my family this week, but with garlic and herb flour tortillas.

I might even try making a dessert Changa myself with maybe an apple puree with rasberrys and strawberrys with whipped cream on the top.

The burger was delicious! The baby bok choy was a great condiment, but the burger can stand on its own.

It all sounds very interesting. I have some new garden photos to upload to you. Potatoes are blooming as are some of the tomatoes. The beans seem to be a failure so we are going to have to replant.

[...] It was a beautiful sunshiney day on Saturday. We loaded up the girls and set out to visit the farmers market. We stopped by the booth of Brian and Kelly of Black Sheep Farms, where we received Tom Thumb lettuce, some baby bok choy, and beautiful heirloom radishes. My goal is to turn their produce into wonderful tasting dishes. Does Black Sheep Farms sound familiar? They are a local CSA here in Omaha, you can read my post here. [...]

What do you plant in your garden?

That is going to be quite the garden!!! I will share with you what I do to fertilize the garden. Find a farmer that has cattle. Scoop the top layer of dirt/manure out of the cattle yard. Dump on garden. Till in. Enjoy the best produce.
By doing this I had tomotoes slices bigger than my bread. Delicious, awesome produce!!! Repeat each year if possible.

Will try the pasta primavera soon.

I was just in Omaha yesterday. We all were in awe of all the trees and flowers in blossom!! So beautiful.

Jamie,
I'm disappointed! You made a blog post about falafel and didn't contact me?!?
That being said, spot on recipe. Sometimes we like to try correander (spelling?) instead of parsley to give it more zing. Furthermore, some place here also give the mix a squeeze of lemon!
Lastly, no. No, this is not the national dish of Israel. It was actually an Egyptian dish that has spread across the Arab world (much like hummus and foul). That being said, Israel now likes to say that hummus and falafel are their national dishes, but historical evidence emphatically indicates otherwise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falafel#History

Enjoy this tasty dish with Hummus, a pickle, some tomato wrapped in pita bread for the authentic experience (you can also substitute hummus for tahini sauce for a more earthy taste).

Can you post your recipe for the creamed chicken that you made with this meal? I've been wanting to make creamed turkey or chicken for a long time and have been scared of just trying any old recipe I find. But I know yours would be tasty so I'd love to try it out!

Best of luck with that garden!!! Do you have raised beds? I highly recommend them if you dont! Less work- better production.
I am sure you did not exaggerate on the tomato plants being 6 ft tall as they do get very tall around here! Black earth, water, and sunshine does miraculous things!!

Now on to the tomato sauce....oh my that sounds soo good. I was given a recipe from a lady that was big in 4-H for years. She gave me her jars and a recipe for the best tasting tomato sauce ever. Have the jars but lost the recipe in the moves since. I will definitely try this one. Glad to hear it works with regular tomotaoes too.

Have not had the time yet to try the cinnamon rolls. Someday soon....

Looks delicious! A wonderful way to celebrate St Pats. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I was given the cranberry syrup by a friend a while back. I have not seen it anywhere around here (I too live in Nebraska) but you can make your own.

Cranberry syrup

1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup sugar
6 ounces (1/4 bag) frozen or fresh cranberries
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice

To prepare the syrup
Combine the water, sugar and cranberries and heat in a small pan over medium-low heat.
Simmer for about 2-3 minutes or until cranberries pop. Drain cranberries through a sieve.
Cool completely and add lime juice.

Please stop by anytime. Glad to find some other Omaha bloggers! :)

Cool completely and add lime juice.

A really nice comment from my grandma: "I was lucky enough to have been invited to Great-Granddaughter Sasha's birthday party. We had a really great time and the food was delicious. Having never had tamales before, I know these had to be the best. Am looking forward to getting the recipes. And the cake was to die for. Heavy in texture, a big surprise in color, and really great tasting. Am so proud of Jamie and her adventuresome cooking."

[...] Last year Sasha wanted an Elmo cake, and I created an Elmo cake for her. This year she wanted a fiesta. She gave me a theme and I ran with it. We started out with various dips for appetizers. I made pico de gallo, guacamole, black bean & corn salsa, and a layered bean dip. For our main dish I made chicken tamales, Mexican rice and my own “refried” beans. Everything was so delicious (check back for recipes). To a three year old the most important parts are the cake and the presents. Awhile back I saw this AWESOME cake and I knew I had to make this for Sasha’s birthday cake. She loved it, and it was fun hearing the ooo’s and aahh’s when we sliced in to it, no one had a clue what was under that whipped cream frosting. We surprised Sasha with a piñata, something she specifically asked for. It was fun watching her trying with all her might to break it open. [...]

I'm joining you for Meatless Monday :)

I haven't tried those because obviously there is no wheat gluten in our house! I thought they sounded yummy though. We are having "Snobby Joes" out of Veganomicon tonight... yum!

Your blueberry scones look so delicious! It's raining here, so I think a fresh batch of warm scones with coffee would be perfect right now! I also like the idea of adding some lemon!
